Coaching notes

 Sue

Background:

Excellent thrower already throwing mid 40s, U20.

10-03-2002: (Windy and horrible )

A really good session today with significant progress. The medicine ball work is really paying off. Note this sequence over the last month:-

10/2/02

24/2/02

10/3/02

Things for you to watch

Most impressive ! All on target for some big throws when the weather improves and you get the right competition.

13-01-2002: (Cloudy and 8C ) (No photos taken after Xmas break)

Things for you to watch:

Excellent session with several 40-43m. throws. Your technique is good enough that medicine ball work should feed right through to the javelin.

16-12-2001: (Cloudy and 5C )

Points for you to work on:

Roger: Excellent alignment, high hand/arm and chest position (rest of the group please note!) You need to work on knee/hip drive to initiate the throw and then the results will be spectacular - congratulations.

Les: Better later in the session. You are still striking with the body before the hip comes through and you need to continue medicine ball work to build on your excellent technique but well done.

18-11-2001: (Clear and 9C)

Points for you to work on:

Roger: Excellent! Technically first rate today. The 'lazy hip drive' of last time is no longer in evidence, so you can do it, but must think to use the hip drive. High hand, javelin alignment and long, straight arm pull are text book - when you are stronger and determined 50m is well within your capabilities.

Les: Your hip sometimes comes through late. When you think about it, it comes through correctly improving your throw significantly. Keep reminding yourself of this. Otherwise your delivery is very good. Try and start regular light medicine ball work for upper body strength. Well done.

21-10-2001: (Raining and 10C)

Points for you to work on:

Neither Roger nor I had much to say at this stage. Your basic technique is excellent. The hip is coming through nicely, the shoulders rotating well and your alignment is very good. Your right wrist could be a little nearer the vertical (i.e. over your right shoulder) but continue as you are and we will fine-tune things later. Well done.
